Activities

Prior to this lesson, students will have started the research paper process. On the topic of European explorers or any other relevant topic, students will have visited the library and gathered information on their topic.

In small groups, students will create a list of how they conducted their research in the library. Possible answers, read encyclopedias, searched the Internet, or discussed research with a friend.

Using this information, students will create topic sentences and the beginning of an introduction.

Next, students will launch the Internet and search for samples of research papers.

Students will now write an introduction to their research paper. The introduction should include: name of explorer, reasons for choosing the explorer, challenges with the research, and thesis statement.

Assessment
