  • Students will find information about Martin Luther King, Jr.'s role in history and in the civil rights movementand, as well as his background history through navigating through websites successfully.
  • Students will use the software entitled "Inspiration" to type in information, use handles to click and drag and enlarge/move graphics.

Summary

A third grade class at Trantwood Elementary School, a Virginia Beach City Public School, explores the life of Martin Luther King by using various internet sites, including those created by other children and various other age-appropriate sites, and then creating a web of information in a software called Inspiration.

  • Computers with Internet access
  • Inspiration software for each computer
  • Speakers/headphones for each computer
  • LCD projector hooked up to the teacher's computer

Activities

  1. Create a template (or have students create template) on Inspiration on the areas that you want the students to find information. Examples of topics might be: MLK's birthplace/birthday, MLK's dream, definition of the civil rights movement.
  2. Have students visit the following sites to complete their exploration of MLK's life:
