Students will simulate shopping on the Internet.

Two 45-minute class periods

Activities

To complete this lesson, students should have Internet navigation skills and knowledge of cooperative learning skills.
Students should be separated into groups of four. Assign each member a job: recorder, reporter, manager, and operator. The recorder is responsible for recording the group's findings. The reporter is responsible for reporting the group's findings to the class. The manager is responsible for monitoring the group's noise level and making sure all group members are on task. The operator is responsible for operating the computer.
Each group will receive a Christmas List worksheet and Christmas Present Questionnaire. Students will learn that they are going to pretend to go shopping on the Internet. Each group will have an imaginary $300 to spend. Students will visit web sites that sell products and collect prices. Purchases are not to be made.
In groups, the recorder will record the group's information onto the Christmas List worksheet.

Assessment

Completed handouts can be evaluated for accuracy and completeness. Each group may also be assessed using a rubric evaluating cooperative learning skills and participation.
